When "Close" button for file transfer screen is clicked the entire connection was getting dropped. So, I went to manufacturer's web site and downloaded a new firmware, hoping that would resolve all the issues I was having with this device. The idea behind this KVM is great but I think this is an ill execution. Here is what is going on with this device:Master PC is XP w/Sp3 and remote PC is Windows 7. Despite my experience with high tech devices I could not get this working properly and I believe it is too much hassle to deal with this as I was looking for a KVM Switch that works first time. Such a mistake, since new firmware installation, I could not even get connected to remote PC anymore. Initially, I was able to manage remote PC. However, the connection was not stable and there was no way of properly closing file transfer screen. Checked out IO Gear Web site and there is not a single knowledge base article or troubleshooting note about this product. I don't recommend this product to anyone who is going to use it to access Windows 7 PC.
It is very easy to install. The built-in soft make it simple to use. the external USB plug-in for an external hard drive makes it an instant wired network.
I've also tested it on my tower and there is about a 1 second delay. The cables are a great length and the ability to link into a thumb drive or another USB add on is cool. I do some side IT work. I wish I could upgrade the software.
I also have a nice 32gig thumb drive but I needed something just in case.Overall quality seems great. Just got this to add to my IT tech kit. not too noticeable if your not looking at the other screen. The software is SUPER basic. This is really cool if you want to do a data backup from a PC that only has a power cable hooked up and saves you time from having to plug in stuff.
Overall i really like the product and it should help me do some work. More of a techy style interface, but I don't expect any main stream users to buy this product. Needed something to help me do data transfer from PC to my laptop. I also wish I could do a virus scan to another PC via the cable, but I haven't figured a way out. There is some lag, but I think its more from slower computers.
My newer laptops I plug it into have a half second delay. This is convenient in that I don't have to remove an HDD or plug in a monitor, or do a transfer between my laptop, a thumb drive, then back to a PC. Besides the lag, its a good product.
Easy to use. Has a little lag when using it to connect to another PC but this is a minor pain. I would recommend this device and would buy this product for my clients.
Product does what is says. Installation was simple and it worked right away. A handy tool for situations where you need to transfer files without the benefit of a network. I'm totally satisfied.
